Alex Bode, MD, Chief Resident
Alex is a fourth-year resident in the Interventional Radiology - Integrated Residency program, and one of the four Chief Residents for the Class of 2024. Hailing from St. Louis, MO, Alex completed undergraduate studies in molecular and cellular biology as well as entrepreneurship at the University of Arizona. He then earned his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
"IR is great because it's so broad," he says. "I'm still figuring out my clinical niche but as of now, I'm interested in women's health interventions especially management of post-partum hemorrhage, venous interventions, and trauma care."
When asked why he thinks "Emory is an excellent program that creates stellar radiologists," he emphasizes how residents train in a variety of settings, including a quaternary care referral center, pediatric healthcare center, VA Medical Center, and a large safety-net hospital with a Level 1 trauma center, as well as a range of health care situations including complex oncology and transplant care. He also appreciates how Emory Radiology "places an emphasis on graduated autonomy with independent call, allowing you to gain the confidence during training to hit the ground running once in practice." He finishes by saying, "The people her are excellent and with such a huge training program/department, you're constantly surrounded by inspiring people who become long-term colleagues and friends."
Outside of his busy training schedule, Alex enjoys cycling, SCUBA diving, traveling (he's attempting to get Delta Platinum status), and live music.
