Flávio Garcia-Pires, MD
Flávio proudly hails from Cáceres in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul. He completed both his undergraduate studies and medical school at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre in Rio Grande do Sul. Now in his fourth year of diagnostic radiology residency, Flávio will join the Emory Radiology faculty in the Division of Community Radiology Specialists after graduation, the perfect fit for his varied clinical interests which include nuclear medicine, musculoskeletal imaging, pediatric and fetal imaging.
Committed to Emory, Flávio says, "If I could go back and pick a program again, I would pick Emory over and over again." Why? "#1) Our people - we have world experts providing personalized 1:1 instruction at the workstation every day, but there are no big egos among them. Our attendings are remarkably personable and down to earth. The same goes for our residents - we are always helping each other and we thrive TOGETHER as a team. Overall, the work environment at Emory is very benign, which is conducive to learning. #2) The quality of our training, which is unparalleled, given the volume and diverse range of pathology we encounter. By the end of our training, there is nothing that we haven't experienced or actively participated in. We are trained at an Olympic level, and as a result, Emory grads are renowned for their ability to hit the ground running from day 1, with exceptional efficiency and accuracy. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to train here."
Away from work, Flávio enjoys DIY home improvement projects, camping, and traveling around the world.
