Saumya Gurbani, MD, PhD
Saumya is from Fullerton, California. He came east to earn an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from Johns Hopkins University and then moved south to earn his MD from Emory University School of Medicine and a PhD in biomedical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. Now in his second year of residency, Saumya aspires to a career in academic medicine and has great interest in MR spectroscopy and neurooncology, but says he's still learning so much about all the other subspecialties.
When asked why he's training at Emory, he says without hesitation, "The people! When I was a med student at Emory, the residents and faculty were incredibly supportive, which encouraged me to want to continue here for my residency training. I'm delighted to be part of such a collegial group of hardworking people."
Outside of Emory, Saumya unwinds by running, building computers, exploring Atlanta restaurants with his wife, and trying to teach his old dog some new tricks.
