Core Service Director of Quality and Patient Safety
Susan has enjoyed a three-decade career with Emory Healthcare. Her dedication to Emory’s foundational values and mission has propelled her into pivotal leadership positions, culminating in 2021 with the role of Director of Quality and Patient Safety at Emory Johns Creek Hospital. In this role, she was at the forefront of creating innovative guidelines to improve health care quality and boost patient safety, while also making sure that regulatory standards are met and processes are enhanced.
Before her leadership position with Emory Johns Creek Hospital, Susan served over 25 years in a variety of increasingly important roles in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences, most recently as the department’s Enterprise Manager of Quality. In this capacity, she played a crucial role in introducing the Lean Daily Management System to the department and contributed significantly to the design team for the Department of Radiology’s facilities in the new Winship Cancer Institute at Emory Midtown.
Susan holds a master's degree in health care administration (MHA), is a certified professional in health care quality (CPHQ) and is a graduate of both the Emory Healthcare Quality Academy and the Emory Radiology Leadership Academy.
A Lean Six Signma Black Belt, Susan's skills include process optimization, efficiency improvement, and data-driven solutions. These skills, combined with her deep understanding of the specialized field of radiology and her holistic approach to leadership, empower her to drive positive changes that optimize the quality of patient care and patient outcomes.
